Payments and pricing

CC payments: Payments are deducted from the separate printing account, that can be charged at Mrs. Dupalová or Samsonová, in the office L131 in the Computer Centre (CC). For printing, you must have a positive balance account. If the account is overdrawn during printing, the printing is finished, however then it is needed to cope incurred debt. CC payments are progressively transferred to HRDS payments, and in the future it is planned their abolition.

HRDS payments: Payments are deducted from an account held at Halls of Residence and Dining Services (HRDS), that can be charged in dining facilities and in service point. Current balance on the account and payments made during the last period can be checked on the HRDS page Board - card operations. If the account is overdrawn during printing, the printing is finished, however then it is needed to cope incurred debt and get your account unblocked at Mr. Čejka, in the office L130 in the CC.

General information

Copying and scanning on the Xerox WorkCentre 7335 is completely independent on printing and its accounting. So it is possible to print on it at any time and it does not matter, whether there is someone working or not working (is logged in or is not).

After each printing using CC payment, report on the success or failed course is sent by e-mail to your school address. Report contains the number of pages being printed, the remaining amount on the account, and a description of the error, if it occured during printing. When HSRB payment is used, information about the operation performed, the unique identification, number of black and white pages A4, black and white pages A3, color pages A4, color pages A3, the amount paid and the state of the deduction.are sent by e-mail.

If one of the trays in available devices runs out of paper, tell it to operational service, to ensure its refill. Printing slides is possible only after consultation with the operational service with a surcharge of 10 Kč per slide. Using the custom paper is forbidden because of the different quality of available office and other paper and because of the need to modify printer settings for different types of paper to prevent deterioration of print quality, paper jams and unnecessary servicing.

Printing in Windows

To print, select the printer and send the job to it. If you have a different password for Windows and Unix/WIS, sometimes for successfull printing you must first force authentication to the server eva. One of the options is in Start menu select Run and enter \\eva\your_login_name, fill in login password valid for Unix/WIS, and when you see the Explorer window containing your home directory on the server eva, printing will work.

Example of using the printer ljlibc

Printing in Unix

On Linux and on servers eva and merlin, you can use either GUI applications for printing, or it is possible to print from command line using commands lpr -P printer file or lp -d printer file. By default, printer ljstudn is set and for printing to this printer parameters -P or -d can be omitted.

Formats PostScript (*.ps), PCL and text are recognized. Files in PostScript or PCL are sent to the printer directly. A text file is converted to PostScript before it is sent to the printer. Lines may be terminated by the characters CR/LF or just LF character. Czech must be encoded in ISO8859-2. On one page there will be two subpages, each with 64 lines with 80 characters.

Examples of some useful commands

  • Display a PostScript file: gv.
  • Convert PDF to PostScript, 1. method: acroread. In File/Print select Print to file.
  • Convert PDF to PostScript, 2. method: pdf2ps (part of gs).
Ex.: File input.pdf will be converted to input.ps:
    pdf2ps input.pdf
  • Transform PostScript: pstops, psselect, psnup, psresize, psbook, epsffit (package psutils).
Ex.: Print two pages on one with frame and the enlarged edges:
    psnup -d -b4 -m10 -2 input.ps output.ps
  • Convert text to PostScript: a2ps.
Ex.: On one page there will be two subpages each with 64 lines with 80 characters:
    a2ps -o output.ps input.txt
  • Transcoding text: iconv.
Ex.: Conversion of encoding CP1250 (Windows) to ISO8859-2 (Unix):
    iconv -f CP1250 -t ISO8859-2 <input.txt >output.txt

Copying and scanning

Attach the card to the card reader (A). After attaching the card, wait a while, especially when the device wakes up from sleep mode. Normal response time is 1-15 seconds.

If the touch screen (B) offers access to your account, confirm it by pressing the Yes button. Otherwise, press No and immediately inform the operational service.

On the main screen, select either the Copy to copying or E-mail for scanning to e-mail.

Put the source for copying or scanning either the image down on the glass sensor (F), or the image up into the automatic feeder for individual sheets (E). The glass sensor can copy or scan almost anything, but two-sided originals have to be flipped manually. In contrast, it is possible to put only individual and intact sheets A4 or A3 (without staples!) into the automatic feeder, but the feeder can handle more sheets at once, including two-sided originals.

For copying, check the settings and press the trigger button (D).

  • Number of copies can be changed using the numeric keypad. The selected number appears at the top right of the touch screen.
  • In the Output Color section, you can change the default black and white copying to the automatic detection or color copying.
  • In the section Reduce/Enlarge, you can choose whether to keep the size of original, or whether you want it to shrink or enlarge. One from the predefined ratios for reduction or enlargement can be selected by pressing More... button.
  • By default, output paper size is selected automatically, according to the copying source. If automatic selection fails, or you want to force exact output type (A4 vertically, A4 horizontally or A3), set the output paper size in the Paper Supply section.
  • In the 2 Sided Copying section, you can set if the original is one-sided (1 Sided), or two-sided (2 Sided), and what is to be the output. For example, 1 -> 2 Sided means that two one-sided sheets are copied to one two-sided sheet.
  • Other settings can be found in the Image Quality, Layout Adjustment, Output Format and Job Assembly tabs.
  • To return to the main screen, press All Services button in the top right of the touch screen.

For scanning to e-mail, check the settings and press the trigger button (D). If you want to scan several pages into one document using glass sensor, you have to press in time the Next Original button during scanning of the first page. To end the scanning, then press the Last Original button.

The maximum allowable size of one e-mail is 10 MB. The scanning process stops when the size is exceeded, and you have to start again. Therefore, it is better to divide scans into parts with approximately 10 pages, which with pre-set parameters in one e-mail usually fit.

  • By default, there is selected your school e-mail. You can change it, or you can add more recipients through letter keyboard (New Recipient...) or an LDAP list search (Address Book...).
  • In the Color Scanning section, you can change the default color scanning to automatic detection, black and white scanning or grayscale scanning.
  • In the 2 Sided Scanning section, you can set if the original is one-sided (1 Sided), two-sided (2 Sided), or two-sided with rotating the second side (2 Sided, Rotate Side 2).
  • The default output format is PDF. For change to S-PDF (Searchable PDF - the document in addition to image layer contains a text layer with the text recognized by OCR) it is possible in E-mail Options tab to press the File Format... button and to change Searchable Text setting from Image Only to Searchable.
  • In the Advanced Settings tab, it is possible in Resolution... setting to change the default resolution of 200 dpi to 300, 400 or 600 dpi. The last two values 400 and 600 dpi are not available for output format S-PDF.
  • Other settings can be found in the Advanced Settings, Layout Adjustment a E-mail Options tabs.
  • To return to the main screen, press All Services button in the top right of the touch screen.

Another possibility is to select the Scan to PC on the main screen and to fill in the displayed login fields for storing data output via the protocol Samba. Server: eva, Shared Name: your_login_name, Save in: empty_or_subdirectory_in_home_directory, User Name: your_login_name, Password: your_login_password. This way, there is no longer any output size limit.

After the work do not forget to logout yourself by pressing the button labeled with Odhlášení/Logout and a key symbol (C)! To complete logout, press the Logout button on the touch screen.
