Travel Information
To get to Brno from anywhere in Europe, you can use regular train or coach connection.
(You can search for the connection e.g. at Czech Railways, Buses).
We recommend you to use airplane connection. International flights to Brno are not offered,
so it is better to travel by airplane to Prague
(Praha-Ruzyne airport).
Brno can be reached in three different ways:
- Czech Airlines services:
- By coach from Praha-Ruzyne airport (PRG) to Brno city center (ZDN).
These services are provided
four times a day at 9:30, 11:30, 17:10 and 19:00 (for the return trip, the
buses leave Brno city center (ZDN) at 5:30, 7:30, 13:15 and 15:15).
The coach ticket can be booked together with the airplane ticket
(they are scheduled in CSA flight timetable).
They leave directly from the airport but the luggage must be handled by the passangers
The travel time is approximately 3 hours. The arrival
place in Brno is Grand Hotel Brno (the centre of the city - it is close to the tram
station from which you will travel to the SANTON hotel), you can also get off at
Brno-Zvonarka Bus Station.
- By plane from Praha-Ruzyne airport (PRG) to
Brno-Turany (BRQ) airport on
Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 11:40 a.m. (for the return trip, the plane
takes off at 15:10 on Monday, Wednesday and Friday). Take a bus number 76 to get
from Brno-Turany airport to Brno city centre (get off at the bus terminal station
- at the main railway station - "Hlavni nadrazi").
- Bus services:
- Regular coaches from Praha-Florenc Bus Station to Brno-Zvonarka Bus Station.
In Prague you should take the bus number 119 from Praha-Ruzyne to "Dejvicka"
underground station (called Metro in Prague). Then you should continue to "Florenc" station,
use line A from "Dejvicka" to "Muzeum" and then use line C from "Muzeum" to "Florenc". From "Florenc"
station you can take a coach to Brno. The price of the local transport is around 12CZK
and the price of the ticket from Prague to Brno is around 150CZK. The arrival place in Brno
is Brno-Zvonarka Bus Station. Some coaches also go to Grand Hotel Brno (the centre of
the city).
- Czech Railways services:
- The regular train connection from Prague to Brno. There are two railway stations from
which direct trains go to Brno: main
railway station ("Hlavni nadrazi") and "Holesovice" railway station ("Nadrazi Holesovice"). You should
check the timetable in advance. In Prague you should take the bus number 119 from Praha-Ruzyne to "Dejvicka"
underground station (called Metro in Prague). Then you should continue to the main railway station,
use line A from "Dejvicka" to "Muzeum" and then use line C from "Muzeum" to the main railway station
("Hlavni nadrazi"), or to "Holesovice" station use line A from "Dejvicka" to "Muzeum" and then use
line C from "Muzeum" to "Nadrazi Holesovice" station. The price of the local transport is
around 12CZK. The trains operate 24hours a day
and go from Prague to Brno approximately every three hours. The price is approximately 250CZK
and the arrival point in Brno is Main Railway Station (centre of Brno).
An alternative is to fly to
Vienna (Wien-Schwechat airport) and then continue to Brno by coach
or train.
The airplane connection to Prague or Vienna is provided by all major airline companies, e.g. CSA (Czech Airlines)
or Austrian Airlines.
Take an airport coach to railway station Banhoff Mitte (about 70ATS), then continue by train (about 700CZK) or bus (about 300CZK).
The direct coach connection to Brno is twice a day only. If you use a train, you most probably will have to change at least once.
In our opinion, the travel via Prague enables you to reach Brno easier and faster and offers you more alternatives.
Local Transport in Brno
You can take a bus or a tram. The best solution is the tram number 1 from the Main Railway Station ("Hlavni adrazi"), direction ECEROVA,
the target tram station is "Pristaviste" (Port). It is about 300 meters distance from the SANTON hotel.
The "Pristaviste" station is 17th station excluding "Hlavni nadrazi" station.
There are no conductors in buses and trams. Tickets must be purchased in
advance and validated by passangers upon entry. A one way ticket costs 12CZK in Brno and may be purchased
in selected newspaper/tobacco shops and ticket machines.
You can use taxi as well. Usual prices are about 20CZK per km. It's a good idea to agree on a price with a driver
before committing to the ride, and be sure that the meter is running while you are in the taxi.
As in many big cities, cab drivers sometimes prey on foreigners who are unfamiliar with the language or currency.
