Mentoring
This is a pilot project organized by the Faculty of Information Technology of BUT in cooperation with the Student Union at FIT. It is designed for present as well as future first-year students of FIT who would like to get some help and support from a selected mentor (a current FIT student).

Women in IT? Female students on FIT? Yes!
The Faculty of Information Technology of Brno University of Technology organizes a number of actions for secondary and comprehensive school students. The aim of these actions is to increase their interest in studying information technologies, and to present the types of study at FIT. A major part of our actions aim at convincing potential students as well as the public that information technologies are an interesting way of life for not only boys and men but also girls and women.
The girls' interest in studying on FIT slightly grows every year, but we still wish to see more amount of them here. However, we are not the only faculty with this problem. The other IT schools have the same problem. Our society unfortunately still suffer from some prejudices regarding the potential role of women in IT. However, our experience shows that women can be very successful in IT. Their view of the world, slightly different type of creativity, communicativeness and usually greater meticulousness are qualities thanks to which women have come to be successful members of development teams; they have also scored many a success in the management of IT companies. Being employed in IT is not only interesting but it is also very flexible. Especially for women, it is very interesting that it is easy to reconcile with family life.
The first years of FIT Summer School and FIT Junior Girl University showed some things. Firstly, it turned out that IT could be interesting for girls. They found out that IT comprise many different branches where they can use their abilities. No less important experience was the realisation that durign the studium on FIT they won't be the only girls on the faculty and that they always will find some helping hand.
