Abstract

Recent developments in languages for description of structured data enable new ways of communication among objects or application programs in distributed information systems. In the past few months we have seen an immense growth of the importance of the Exyensible Markup Language (XML) inmany areas of computer science. This paper presents the main reasons why XML is so important.
