Abstract

With the current advancements in environmental data collection, laser scanning devices are becoming more and more relevant as a means of creating virtual models of objects, streets, cities, and landscapes. The purpose of my work is to create a device for constructing 3D maps of inhabited urban and suburban areas. The tool will be able to detect, ignore, and highlight scanned people and other moving objects.  The program will be built in the Robot Operating System (ROS) framework, utilizing the octomap tool.
