Learning objectives:
To provide students with information on principles of bus systems construction and the principles of peripheral devices construction. The topics will be exercised during laboratory tutorials.
Description:
The themes of lectures deal with the principles of construction of peripheral devices and their principles of operation. An attention is paid also to the principles of I/O bus construction and the principles of communication on them. During the laboratory tutorials students verify the gained knowledge on practical examples.
Learning outcomes and competences:
Students will acquire a survey in the area of peripheral devices and the principles of peripheral devices operation.

  2. Types of I/O Buses. The Communication Through the Buses.
  3. PC Buses, Trends.
  4. Serial and Parallel Interfaces.
  5. The Principles of Impact and Nonimpact Printing.
  6. Displays and Video Adapters.
  7. Video RAM Organisation, EGA/VGA Architecture, Graphics Processors.
  8. Peripheral Memory Units Based on Magnetic Record, the Principles of Magnetic Recording.
  9. Disc Interfaces, Disc Control. Recording Media, Disc Logical Structure.
  10. Optical Disc Units, Read/Write Technologies.
  11. Plotters, Digitizers.
  12. Optical Units for Reading Documents.
  13. Principles of Communication in Technology Environment.
