Learning objectives:
  The course develops students' language skills for talking to people in business situations, business correspondence, presentation of the company and its products, promotion and sales, talking about money matters, communication in a company, and negotiations.
Description:
  The course is focused on develoment of language skills and mastering of vocabulary used in business, mainly concerning company organization, responsibilities, job applications, interviews, products and services, production processes, sales and orders, complaints, money matters, communication, e.g. telephoning, correspondence, negotations, meetings, presentation of the company, its products and services. Students will work with textbooks and materials offered by the department.
Knowledge and skills required for the course:
  Knowledge of English at an intermediate level is required, completed BSc BAN4 course.
Learning outcomes and competencies:
  Students will learn how to communicate in business situations, e.g. speak on telephone, write business letters, talk about the company, its products, promotion and sales, and money matters, make presentations.

  2. Communication in the company: Telephoning, messages, exchange of information, meetings.
  3. Description of products, promotion and sales.
  4. Description of production process, instructions.
  5. Description of jobs, CV, interview.
  6. Goods, orders, deliveries.
  7. Money matters, invoicing, payments.
  8. Complaints and response to complaints.
  9. Achievements, plans, trends, graph reading.
  10. Socializing, cultural differences.
  11. Banking products, the budget.
  12. Negotiations.
  13. Revision, test.

Controlled instruction:
  The content and forms of instruction in the evaluated course are specified by a regulation issued by the instructor responsible for the course and updated for every academic year.
Progress assessment:
  
  • Course-unit credit: maximum number of points is 40, 20 points for test and 20 points for listening.
  • Final examination: maximum number of points is 60, 30 points for written and 30 points for oral parts.
Exam prerequisites:
  Minimum 20 points from the test.
