Learning objectives:
To get acquainted with the principles and history of Java programming language. To learn about methods of application development in Java programming language. To get acquainted with ways of exploitation of standard libraries and tools for application development. To learn about differences in Java programming and programming in other languages. To get acquainted with the modern technologies for creating web applications using J2EE.
Description:
Development of Java programming language, Java virtual machine, Java basic and object oriented features, types of Java applications (standalone application/applet/servlet), basic libraries(java.lang, java.io, java.util), libraries javax.swing, events mechanisms in Java, image and sound handling, application development, applet development, JavaBeans development, GUI programming tools, network services (java.net), network application development, advanced web applications development using J2EE, building and testing.
Subject specific learning outcomes and competences:
The students will get acquainted with the principles and history of Java programming language. They will learn about methods of application development in Java programming language. They will also get acquainted with ways of exploitation of standard libraries and tools for application development. Next, the students will learn about differences in Java programming and programming in other languages. Finally, the students will learn the modern technologies for creating web applications using J2EE.
Generic learning outcomes and competences:
The students will improve their skills in programming language Java, in team work, and in preparation of project documentation.

  1. Development of Java programming language. Java virtual machine.
  2. Java basic and object oriented features. Types of Java applications (standalone application/applet/servlet).
  3. Exception handling mechanisms in Java.
  4. Basic libraries(java.lang, java.io, java.util).
  5. Multithreading.
  6. Image and sound handling.
  7. Events mechanisms in Java.
  8. Libraries javax.swing.
  9. GUI programming tools, application and applet development.
  10. Java EE.
  11. JavaServer Faces.
  12. Google Web Toolkit.
  13. Building and testing.
