Just another guy hanging around the SuperMen and SuperWomen (not many) in the squeak community. The past 2 years at OOPSLA have been eye opening, last year (1999) during the BOF the Disney folks where around me during the BOF, and I got a chance to talk to 4 of the super folks that have followed and implemented Alan Kay's vision of the dynabook, and what has become ST-80 in the new millenium, Squeak.

During this year at OOPSLA, the BOF was my first chance to explain in brief what I'm doing with Squeak, and the summary response was encouraging. The children and college folks that I teach/mentor are encourage to free-form learn from using Squeak, form the online tutorials, and I take my 18 years of Software Experience and answer questions, helping where I can, and mostly getting out of the way of their learning process.

I'm heading up to Oregon to help with a research project (sobatical if you will) with Instantiations.com and Allan to document the history of OO in the Portland and Oregon area, eventually having an online library of sorts showing original materials that have led to the OOPSLA conference and also to OO concepts and innovations in general.

That is it for now, I'm exactly where I need to be in life and exactly where I want to be. Living in Colorado for the past 13 years, it has now take a full turn (how that is ironic) and now I get to give back to the educational and learning communities what I spent a good portion of my life learning. Solid knowledge never goes out of style or fashion. I praise those that have something, to give back, the reward of seeing mini lightbulbs go off (like the Xmas bulbs I used to toss into the streets as a misguided child) in the heads of the young, well its just amazing.
