Organization

The plan is to convene at the start of each of the 4 sessions and decide as a group how to proceed. The first session (Saturday morning) is planned to be a general discussion of the state of Squeak, the SqueakCentral project list, and the availability of resources. After that, we will probably break into topical groups to (hopefully) get some real results during the weekend.

Special Event Note

There are several activities for visitors to Santa Barbara around this time; the Santa Barbara International Film Festival goes on through 3/12 (see http://www.sbfilmfestival.com/15annual/) and the (awesome) UCSB Percussion Ensemble will give a concert Friday Evening 3/10 at 8 PM in Lotte Lehman Hall at UCSB (see http://www.music.ucsb.edu/imagesConcert/winterevnts2000.html#300).

Directions

Santa Barbara is 100 miles north of Los Angeles, and 330 miles south of San Francisco; there are good highway, train, bus, and air connections to both the south and the north. We're right on California highway 101.

UCSB is in Goleta, about 8 miles west of Santa Barbara proper.

The CREATE center is in the music department of UCSB, right in the middle of campus next to the University Center (UCEN, the main student union).

Music Room 1145 is across from the entrance to Lotte Lehmann Concert Hall (LLCH) on the eastern side of the building (away from the tower). Look for the yellow signs that say "Squeak-end"

Lodging/Travel

For info on lodging in the area, take a look at,
http://www.admit.ucsb.edu/vcen/LocalLodgings.htm
Any of the hotels in Goleta are a cheap cab ride from UCSB (we'll try to organize for rides). Downtown Santa Barbara is about 8 miles away. I'm afraid we will not be able to use any on-campus housing.

Parking

General access -- buy a $3 day sticker and park in lots 16, 21, 22, 23, or 27 (north and west sides of campus). Walk to Music Bldg. (middle of campus near Storke Tower and UCen).

Net access

There will be several machines (Macs/UNIX) available for Internet connection.

Net-casting

Should we set up a Swiki for the event?
