I am currently a high school senior at George Washington High School (http://gwhs.kana.k12.wv.us/). I plan to major in Computer Science at college (who knows where?), with a focus on adaptive systems. As I type this, I have never used Squeak, or any flavor of Smalltalk. However, I stumbled my way to this page while reading about Squeak, and I plan to familiarize myself with it eventually (senior year is proving to take more of my time than I thought it would).
Although I have decent programming experience (mostly Pascal), I have had virtually no exposure to object-oriented programming. For this reason, Dwight Hughes recommended (thanks for the fast advice!) that I begin learning Smalltalk with a development environment that has a bit more documentaion than Squeak. So I plan on starting with Object Arts's free v1.1 of Dolphin Smalltalk (http://www.object-arts.com/Home.htm), then taking a look at ObjectShare's free Smalltalk Express (http://www.objectshare.com/se/seinfo.htm). By then I should be proficient enough to examine the current version of Squeak.
