Squeak and Smalltalk Tutorials and Teaching Materials

This folder contains a number of Squeak and Smalltalk tutorials and miscellaneous teaching materials.

If you're looking for a printed book to learn squeak, I'd recommend Squeak : Object-Oriented Design with Multimedia Applications by Mark Guzdial, Prentice Hall, 2001.

On-line HTML and PDF Materials on the CD-ROM

• Andy's Squeak Reference: Andrew Greenberg's excellent Squeak Tutorial and Reference Manual (as HTML), which presents the user interface and then focuses on the language and class libraries.
• Basic Tutorial: Basic Aspects of Squeak and the Smalltalk-80 Programming Language by Wolfgang Kreutzer; this details the use of the GUI tools for programming.
• SqueakOnline Book: Thorsten Bregman's comprehensive online Squeak tutorial, including everything from historical references to low-level details. This is also on the Web here.
• Making Smalltalk: An excellent and in-depth series of articles by Jason Steffler from the Linux Gazette. These are still appearing on http://www.linuxgazette.com.
• Getting from Java to Squeak: A tutorial by Giovanni Giorgi for those who already know a hybrid, typed OO programming language such as C++ or Java.
• Shortest Possible Introduction: For the impatient (I'm ashamed that I can't remember who sent this to me).
• Starting Squeak: HTML slides from a course taught at San Diego State University by Roger Whitney (also available as a PDF file).
• Some Data Types and Control Structures: The follow on to the previous SDSU course slides by Roger Whitney (also available as a PDF file).
• Morphic Tutorial: Juan Vuletich's Morphic Tutorial.
• Fun with the Morphic Graphics System: John Maloney's Morphic Tutorial (John developed morphic, by the way).
