Mentors
The concept: When you join Nation1, another Nation1 member will help you get adjusted and involved. We want to empower young people to be able to effect positive change. To do that, you first have to recognize your own power. Mentors will help new members realize that potential and show them how to use Nation1 to make a difference.
Advantages: It's easier to realize your own potential if a human being is helping you find it than having a form letter tell you.
Possible problems: There may not be enough people to go around. Mentoring could be very time consuming. Mentors might not always be able to help. New members might already know a lot and find the mentors to be repetitive.
Priority level: Low. Mentors are a nice touch but are not crucial. The first version of Nation1 does not have to have mentors.
Possible plans:
- One on one mentoring. Each new member has another, senior member assigned to them.
- Group mentoring. A few designated mentors introduce new members with a form letter but make it clear that if they have any questions that they should not hesitate to ask. Certain times could be set aside in a chat room for new Nation1 members and mentors.
- No mentors, just form letters.
