Summary of the Action Key Element

The main reason that young people are not always "involved" is not because we are apathetic; it's because not everyone knows enough about issues or action opportunities. Nation1 action support services will break down those barriers, proving to everyone, including ourselves, that we can make a difference. These services will connect young people and adults, give youth the means to make their voices heard, and more.

Within the discussion groups (see above) youth can debate issues. In similar, but less regulated forums, they will be able to develop plans of action that will help the problems or improve the lives of youth in their local communities - or others' communities. Emphasis will be placed on the ability to insert human structures into groups. For instance, a group might elect a President who might have access to the Public Relations tools, or a Secretary who might have access to a "folder" to save and retrieve copies of the minutes/log of online chat meetings.

A series of interconnected databases will store information on upcoming events, action projects initiated by Nation1 members, contact information for people that can help with those projects, volunteer and action opportunities, informative reports on different issues, petitions, polls, and more. This information will be customized to fit each individual Nation1 member's preferences. In this way, a citizen can be alerted to upcoming events in their region, not the horn of Africa. A citizen can also narrow it down even further and be alerted to events about civil and human rights, but not about science or technology.

Citizens who are new to activism will receive a personal introduction from a mentor, experts in their field or other Nation1 citizens. In addition, profiles of young activists will provide good ideas on action citizens themselves can take. A How To section will provide instructions on affecting change that are specific enough to get the job done but broad enough to include virtually all situations.

A People Finder keeping track of translators, expert adult advisors, policy-makers, action project leaders, organization directors, corporation CEOs, etc. will allow Nation1 citizen's to find people to assist them in their endeavors.

A complete directory of all projects initiated by Nation1 members will be kept in our Projects Listing, along with projects and organizations with similar goals. This will help the action projects within Nation1 to connect with each other and outside organizations. Members are free to start their own initiatives, but to avoid re-inventing the wheel, members are also kept aware of other projects and organizations that they can be a part of.

Action and volunteer opportunities will be tracked. There will always be something to do for Nation1 members, whether it's a vigil for victims of child abuse, volunteering at the local soup kitchen, or a river clean up. And, through the Nation1 network, it won't be difficult for citizens to find friends meet there or even carpool with!
