Stephan Rudlof: Perhaps we could categorize the projects? So people could see immediately where they can participate and also there is an overview over started and finished projects, what can be very motivating...

Another - simpler - variant would be to just add a keyword after the project describing line (see LargeIntegers project above).

Please view this as an idea (I'm not sure if this is a good one myself...) with a first draft and change it and/or write your comments! I will remove it if there isn't great support for it...

Comments:
One problem could be, that almost all projects will remain in the 'Running Projects' area...
