Bitmap fonts

Squeak uses mainly bitmap fonts. A bitmap font is stored in an instance of the class Form and managed by the class StrikeFont.

Reinier van Loon has done some scripts to convert a TrueType font to a Squeak strike font by using VSE (http://web.inter.nl.net/users/R.L.J.M.W.van.Loon/). He also has some more examples of StrikeFonts on his page.

There is an implementation of a TrueType font reader, but it is not yet fully integrated (also see the next topic). See categories "TrueType-Fonts" and "TrueType-Support".

Rob Vens and Hans-Martin Mosner have written a TrueType to StrikeFont conversion on their way back from OOPSLA.
ftp://ftp.cs.uni-magdeburg.de/pub/Smalltalk/free/squeak/win32/bin/ has a Windows utility stfont.exe written by Andreas Raab which converts TrueType fonts into a Squeak file-in (change set file which generates a StrikeFont).
